Despite the Web site saying it is no longer operating. Yes Loch house retreat is still open for business. Beautiful comfy cottages wait you with self catering facilities included although no oven, there is a George Foreman grill instead (thus wasn't an issue forus). Everything you need is included, lovely soft towels, comfy beds and your own space. What's great is you are only 1.5 miles from Moffat and just off the motorway making it a perfect stop either on you way up or back from Scotland. Mary is accommodating and very friendly, I would definitely recommend Loch House retreat.

This was our 2nd visit - We came here for a friend's wedding at Auchen Castle 6 years ago & instead of one nights stay at the castle we did a week's stay at Lochhouse Farm.

We loved it then & we loved it here again in 2023 - Now with 2 children as well.

It's straight off the motorway, lots of scenery, walks, a river alongside & central to multiple locations north and south.

There is also pathway either side for walkers, we took the kids over to the bridge and along the footpath that sits between the fields that turns out to be part of the property. This then took us alongside the river and some stunning views beyond the bridges etc...

We stayed in Swallow cottage and it was spacious in both the bedroom with a double & single bed and also the huge sun room which doubles up as an additional bedroom.

Kitchen is a little small but once you learn house to use the combination oven microwave, it's easy to cook all your meals. There is also a 4 hob cooker top, toaster, foreman grill & slow cooker. Lots of pans, utensils, crockery etc.

Living room is integrated into the kitchen & there is also a huge wood burning stove available to use as well.

I believe the owners have put this on the market for sale. Personally looking online, it's a steal for someone to continue on the good work.

We look forward to coming again in years to come & good look in retirement for the current owners!

We stopped for just one night en route to the highlands. The cottage was really spacious, well equipped & clean. ||Breakfast was provided but there was a fully equipped kitchen so we could make whatever we wanted ourselves such as our own preferred blend of coffee, as there was a cafetière, & toaster etc so we could also have our own bread. Great for people who are particular about what they eat.||Our two little dogs were made welcome and the hosts were very friendly and helpful.||Fantastic location. Perfect for accessing the motorway and nearby Moffat.||A resale gem of a place?

We came to Lochhouse Farm to have a day off in and around Moffat as we walked the Southern Upland Way. Nice old farm buildings just off the main road lead to a very comfortable room and welcoming hosts. They offer an exceptionally good value evening meal that we enjoyed very much after a day's walk, and drove us around for a fee that beat the local taxi firms hands down. Breakfast was fine, as was the packed lunch they gave us, but at this price we really cannot complain.

I had a lovely stay albeit short. The owners couldn't do enough. The twin room was very comfortable to stay in. The bathroom was next door but that wasn't a problem. I had an evening meal which was excellent. Breakfast was great as well. I would definitely stay here again.

On arrival at the cottage the description of location & view were quite different. The river was behind a fence at the back of a gravelled area. The only access was round the back of the building. There was no view at all from the cottage which was disappointing. The welcome was nice, the cottage was comfortable, the surrounding area lovely and Moffat really nice. There isn't much in Beattock which was disappointing. The Stables pub is not pet friendly so we had to go into Moffat where the pubs and hotels were pet friendly.

We had a stop off here on our way to Edinburgh. Very cosy, comfortable and friendly spot. Mary is lovely and we enjoyed a good natter. Lovely breakfast cooked by Michael. Couldn't fault the place so highly recommend. Thanks for a very nice stay. Hope to visit again xx

Very accommodating hosts who have kept their self-catering cottages open for key workers during the pandemic. At this price point, you can't fault their offering. Despite over a week of continuous sub-freezing temperatures, the cottage was very cosy and the fire was lit only once (for ambience!). The kitchen is well equipped with full hob and kitchenware, though do note the oven is a combination microwave/convection/grill affair. Plenty of local walks right on the doorstep, be it the Southern Upland Way, Annandale Way, or your own choice of single track back road. I would certainly recommend Lochhouse for its all-round offering and great value.
